Proverb 30 is not associated with Solomon, these are the words of Agur who is not mentioned in any other part of scripture!
Pro 30:2-3, Surely I am more stupid than any man, And do not have the understanding of a man. I neither learned wisdom Nor have knowledge of the Holy One.
It takes humility to know GOD, Agur compared himself to a beast in his knowledge of GOD! What he knows about GOD is very minimal; not just for him but for All of us! As Job has said, “THESE ARE THE MERE EDGES OF HIS WAYS”
Job 26:14, INDEED THESE ARE THE MERE EDGES OF HIS WAYS, AND HOW SMALL A WHISPER WE HEAR OF HIM! BUT THE THUNDER OF HIS POWER WHO CAN UNDERSTAND?”
Pro 30:4, WHO HAS ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN, OR DESCENDED? WHO HAS GATHERED THE WIND IN HIS FISTS? WHO HAS BOUND THE WATERS IN A GARMENT? WHO HAS ESTABLISHED ALL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH? WHAT IS HIS NAME, AND WHAT IS HIS SON’S NAME, IF YOU KNOW?
The only answer for these five questions is GOD HIMSELF! For HE is the only ONE capable of doing this! But the last question shows that this humble man knew that GOD has a SON; “WHAT IS HIS NAME, AND WHAT IS HIS SON’S NAME, IF YOU KNOW”? DO YOU KNOW HIS NAME? HIS NAME IS JESUS, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD!
Isa 9:6, FOR UNTO US A CHILD IS BORN, UNTO US A SON IS GIVEN; AND THE GOVERNMENT WILL BE UPON HIS SHOULDER. AND HIS NAME WILL BE CALLED WONDERFUL, COUNSELOR, MIGHTY GOD, EVERLASTING FATHER, PRINCE OF PEACE.
Pro 30:7-8, TWO THINGS I REQUEST OF YOU (DEPRIVE ME NOT BEFORE I DIE): Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches—Feed me with the food allotted to me;
Agur just wanted two things from the LORD while he lived on the earth! He didn’t want any lies in his life; he just wanted to know the truth. Also, he didn’t want riches nor poverty.
Pro 30:9, LEST I BE FULL AND DENY YOU, AND SAY, “WHO IS THE LORD?” OR LEST I BE POOR AND STEAL, AND PROFANE THE NAME OF MY GOD.
People with great wealth are often dependent on it, but wealth can never protect you from death! WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM THE LORD? Remember when GOD asked Solomon this question (1Kings 3:1-15)! Solomon replied
1Ki 3:9, THEREFORE GIVE TO YOUR SERVANT AN UNDERSTANDING HEART TO JUDGE YOUR PEOPLE, THAT I MAY DISCERN BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL. FOR WHO IS ABLE TO JUDGE THIS GREAT PEOPLE OF YOURS?”
