Isaiah 20, Trusting in man rather than GOD?

Isa 20:1, IN THE YEAR THAT TARTAN CAME TO ASHDOD, WHEN SARGON THE KING OF ASSYRIA SENT HIM, AND HE FOUGHT AGAINST ASHDOD AND TOOK IT, 

Tartan, which is a title something like general today, was sent by Sargon the king of Assyria (father to Sennacherib) and took the philistine city of Ashdod! Israel was scared!

Isa 20:2-3, at the same TIME THE LORD SPOKE BY ISAIAH the son of Amoz, saying, “GO, AND REMOVE THE SACKCLOTH FROM YOUR BODY, AND TAKE YOUR SANDALS OFF YOUR FEET.” And he did so, walking naked and barefoot. Then the LORD said, “JUST AS MY SERVANT ISAIAH HAS WALKED NAKED AND BAREFOOT THREE YEARS FOR A SIGN AND A WONDER AGAINST EGYPT AND ETHIOPIA,

The LORD told Isaiah to strip down, not completely naked, but down to his under garments as a sign which the LORD was going to do to Egypt and Ethiopia! Why?

Isa 20:4, SO SHALL THE KING OF ASSYRIA LEAD AWAY THE EGYPTIANS AS PRISONERS AND THE ETHIOPIANS AS CAPTIVES, YOUNG AND OLD, NAKED AND BAREFOOT, WITH THEIR BUTTOCKS UNCOVERED, TO THE SHAME OF EGYPT. 

When Assyria took Ashdod, Israel was looking to form an alliance with Egypt and Ethiopia in order to fight against Assyria! ISRAEL WAS LOOKING FOR HELP IN THE WORLD AND FORGOT ABOUT GOD?

Jos 1:9, HAVE I NOT COMMANDED YOU? BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE; DO NOT BE AFRAID, NOR BE DISMAYED, FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD IS WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU GO.” 

Isa 20:5, THEN THEY (ISRAEL) SHALL BE AFRAID AND ASHAMED OF ETHIOPIA THEIR EXPECTATION AND EGYPT THEIR GLORY. 

Assyria humiliated the nations which Israel depended on! They were ashamed because they sought for help in man and not GOD!

Jer 17:5, Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD. 

Isa 20:6, And the inhabitant of this territory (Israel) will say in that day, ‘SURELY SUCH IS OUR EXPECTATION, WHEREVER WE FLEE FOR HELP to be delivered from the king of Assyria; and HOW SHALL WE ESCAPE?’ ” 

It’s always sad when people, who say they believe in GOD, place their faith in man? IS THEIR ANYTHING TOO HARD FOR THE LORD?

Isa 26:3-4, YOU WILL KEEP HIM IN PERFECT PEACE, WHOSE MIND IS STAYED ON YOU, BECAUSE HE TRUSTS IN YOU. TRUST IN THE LORD FOREVER, FOR IN YAH, THE LORD, IS EVERLASTING STRENGTH.

Isaiah 18, The LORD doesn’t need help!

Isa 18:1-2, Woe to the land shadowed with buzzing wings, WHICH IS BEYOND THE RIVERS OF ETHIOPIA, Which sends ambassadors by sea, Even in vessels of reed on the waters, saying, “GO, SWIFT MESSENGERS, TO A NATION TALL AND SMOOTH OF SKIN, To a people terrible from their beginning onward, A nation powerful and treading down, WHOSE LAND THE RIVERS DIVIDE.” 

The nation of Ethiopia wanted to form a confederacy with Israel against Assyria; Yet, Isaiah points out that GOD will protect Israel and HE has a message to all the world!

Isa 18:3, NLT, ALL YOU PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, EVERYONE WHO LIVES ON THE EARTH—WHEN I RAISE MY BATTLE FLAG ON THE MOUNTAIN, LOOK! WHEN I BLOW THE RAM’S HORN, LISTEN!

When GOD is working look and listen for no man is able to stand before the living GOD! HE doesn’t need an alliance of men to destroy Assyria; for HE is in full control of everything!

Exo 14:14, THE LORD WILL FIGHT FOR YOU, AND YOU SHALL HOLD YOUR PEACE.” 

Isa 18:4, NLT, For the LORD has told me this: “I WILL WATCH QUIETLY FROM MY DWELLING PLACE…. EVEN BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOUR ATTACK, WHILE YOUR PLANS ARE RIPENING LIKE GRAPES, THE LORD WILL CUT OFF YOUR NEW GROWTH WITH PRUNING SHEARS. HE WILL SNIP OFF AND DISCARD YOUR SPREADING BRANCHES

HE, The LORD sees everything for HE is never sleeping nor resting; HE is always working! HE knows what HE’s doing and has a perfect plan!

Psa 121:3-5, He will not allow your foot to be moved; HE WHO KEEPS YOU WILL NOT SLUMBER. BEHOLD, HE WHO KEEPS ISRAEL SHALL NEITHER SLUMBER NOR SLEEP. THE LORD IS YOUR KEEPER; The LORD is your shade at your right hand.

Isa 18:6, THEY WILL BE LEFT TOGETHER FOR THE MOUNTAIN BIRDS OF PREY AND FOR THE BEASTS OF THE EARTH; THE BIRDS OF PREY WILL SUMMER ON THEM, AND ALL THE BEASTS OF THE EARTH WILL WINTER ON THEM. 

The bodies of those that came up against HIS people will be left as food for the wild animals!

Nah 1:6-7, WHO CAN STAND BEFORE HIS INDIGNATION? AND WHO CAN ENDURE THE FIERCENESS OF HIS ANGER? HIS FURY IS POURED OUT LIKE FIRE, AND THE ROCKS ARE THROWN DOWN BY HIM. The LORD is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And HE KNOWS THOSE WHO TRUST IN HIM.

DO YOU TRUST IN HIM? HE DOESN’T NEED HELP FROM ANYONE FOR HE TREADS THE WINEPRESS ALONE!

Proverbs 3:1-12, Trusting in the LORD!

Pro 3:1-2, My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; FOR LENGTH OF DAYS AND LONG LIFE AND PEACE THEY WILL ADD TO YOU.

Wisdom will preserve your life; it will keep you from an evil path or having fools for friends! Following the foot steps of a fool will lead to death, but wisdom will add to your life!

Pro 28:26, HE WHO TRUSTS IN HIS OWN HEART IS A FOOL, BUT WHOEVER WALKS WISELY WILL BE DELIVERED. 

Pro 3:5-6, Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

It’s easy to trust in GOD when everything is going well, but when trials come then your faith is tested! It’s not easy and doubt will come but much like fine gold is purged of impurities by fire so is your faith being purged by trials!

Mal 3:3, HE WILL SIT AS A REFINER AND A PURIFIER OF SILVER; HE WILL PURIFY THE SONS OF LEVI, AND PURGE THEM AS GOLD AND SILVER, THAT THEY MAY OFFER TO THE LORD AN OFFERING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Leaning on our understanding is our default, but the LORD is saying TRUST IN ME, LET THAT BE YOUR NEW DEFAULT REACTION TO ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!

Mar 9:23-24, Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”  Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “LORD, I BELIEVE; HELP MY UNBELIEF!” 

Pro 3:11-12, My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor detest His correction; For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.

As a loving father corrects his child, and not his neighbor’s child, so does the LORD correct HIS children! Are you HIS?

Heb 12:7-8, If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? BUT IF YOU ARE WITHOUT CHASTENING, of which all have become partakers, THEN YOU ARE ILLEGITIMATE AND NOT SONS.

Trusting in the work of the unseen FATHER is foolish to non-believers, but for Christians we clearly see HIS provisions in life! REMEMBER HE IS FAITHFUL AND MERCIFUL! TRUST IN THE LORD AND HE SHALL DIRECT YOUR PATH!

Psalm 121, Our help is from HIM!

Psa 121:1, I WILL LIFT UP MY EYES TO THE HILLS—FROM WHENCE COMES MY HELP? 

The Psalmist is not looking for help from the high ground, HE is thinking of the holy hill of Zion where the true KING will reign from!

Psa 2:6, “Yet I have set MY KING ON MY HOLY HILL OF ZION.” 

Psa 121:1b-2, FROM WHENCE COMES MY HELP?  MY HELP COMES FROM THE LORD, WHO MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH. 

Our help comes from the LORD for HE is always with us, and knows what’s happening in our lives! Don’t put your trust in money, your business, your skills, your wisdom; FOR ALL THESE THINGS CAN BE TAKEN FROM YOU!

Psa 20:7, Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; BUT WE WILL REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE LORD OUR GOD. 

Heb 13:6, So we may boldly say: “THE LORD IS MY HELPER; I WILL NOT FEAR. WHAT CAN MAN DO TO ME?”

Psa 121:3-4, HE WILL NOT ALLOW YOUR FOOT TO BE MOVED; HE WHO KEEPS YOU WILL NOT SLUMBER. BEHOLD, HE WHO KEEPS ISRAEL SHALL NEITHER SLUMBER NOR SLEEP.

IF YOU’RE STANDING ON THE ROCK (JESUS), THEN YOUR FOOTING IS SURE for you stand on solid ground! HE never sleeps on the job; HE is faithful from start to finish!

Deu 32:3-4, FOR I PROCLAIM THE NAME OF THE LORD: ASCRIBE GREATNESS TO OUR GOD. HE IS THE ROCK, HIS WORK IS PERFECT; FOR ALL HIS WAYS ARE JUSTICE, A GOD OF TRUTH AND WITHOUT INJUSTICE; RIGHTEOUS AND UPRIGHT IS HE.

Psa 121:7-8, THE LORD SHALL PRESERVE YOU FROM ALL EVIL; HE SHALL PRESERVE YOUR SOUL. THE LORD SHALL PRESERVE YOUR GOING OUT AND YOUR COMING IN From this time forth, and even forevermore.

There are times in trials where we don’t feel that HE is with us, or maybe turned away from us! But, Truth be told, HE IS THERE WITH US BUILDING OUR FAITH AND RELIANCE ON HIM AND HIM ALONE! Trust in HIM!

Pro 3:5-6, TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, AND HE SHALL DIRECT YOUR PATHS.

Isa 41:10, FEAR NOT, FOR I AM WITH YOU; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Psalm 116, HE is with us in times of trouble!

Psa 116:1-2, I LOVE THE LORD, BECAUSE HE HAS HEARD MY VOICE AND MY SUPPLICATIONS. BECAUSE HE HAS INCLINED HIS EAR TO ME, THEREFORE I WILL CALL UPON HIM AS LONG AS I LIVE.

No one likes going through any trial, but the beauty in trials, FOR THE BELIEVER, is when HE hears and responds to your call! THEN YOU REALIZE THAT YOUR NOT ALONE! HE IS HERE!

Isa 41:10, FEAR NOT, FOR I AM WITH YOU; BE NOT DISMAYED, FOR I AM YOUR GOD. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ 

Psa 116:5-6, GRACIOUS IS THE LORD, AND RIGHTEOUS; YES, OUR GOD IS MERCIFUL. THE LORD PRESERVES THE SIMPLE; I WAS BROUGHT LOW, AND HE SAVED ME.

Compared to HIS massive creation we are but microorganisms, YET HE PRESERVES THE SIMPLE! WE ARE BUT DUST, AND STILL HE LOVES EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US!

Luk 12:24, Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of HOW MUCH MORE VALUE ARE YOU THAN THE BIRDS?

Psa 144:3, LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him? 

Psa 116:10, I BELIEVED, THEREFORE I SPOKE, “I am greatly afflicted.” 

The Psalmist was greatly afflicted, so in faith he spoke to the LORD in prayer! Paul used this same verse to justify him speaking of Christ JESUS in trying times!

2Co 4:13-14, And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I BELIEVED AND THEREFORE I SPOKE,” we also believe and THEREFORE SPEAK, knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you.

Psa 116:11, I SAID IN MY HASTE, “ALL MEN ARE LIARS.” 

In trials, we may get overwhelmed and say things in haste; saying things that shouldn’t have been said! IT IS MUCH EASIER TO BE QUITE THAN TO RECALL THE WORDS THAT WERE SAID! Calling on GOD, yet cursing men?

Jas 3:10, Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, THESE THINGS OUGHT NOT TO BE SO. 

While HE is faithful and steadfast, we are inconsistent at best! THANK YOU LORD!

Psalm 115, Worthless idols!

Psa 115:1, Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, BUT TO YOUR NAME GIVE GLORY, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth. 

Pride seems to show its ugly head from even the best of men! Look what I have, I made this, I’m better than you! Give all the glory to GOD; HE is worthy to be PRAISED!

Pro 16:18, Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. 

Dan 4:30-31, The king spoke, saying, “Is not this great Babylon, THAT I HAVE BUILT for a royal dwelling BY MY MIGHTY POWER and FOR THE HONOR OF MY MAJESTY?” While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you!

Honor and Glory belongs to the LORD; never take credit for what HE has done in your life!

Psa 115:3-6, But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases. THEIR IDOLS ARE SILVER AND GOLD, THE WORK OF MEN’S HANDS. They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell;

The Idols of men, even though they have eyes, ears, mouths, hands and feet are dead! They are objects with no life, YET people worship them expecting it to hear and respond?

Psa 115:8, THOSE WHO MAKE THEM ARE LIKE THEM; SO IS EVERYONE WHO TRUSTS IN THEM. 

As there is no life in these idols, THOSE WHO BELIEVE AND TRUST IN THEM ARE ALSO DEAD SPIRITUALLY!

Mat 8:22, BUT JESUS SAID TO HIM, “FOLLOW ME, AND LET THE DEAD BURY THEIR OWN DEAD.”

The day is coming WHEN THE LIVING AND THE SPIRITUALLY DEAD will be face to face with the LORD to give an account of their time spent on earth (1Pet 4:5)! WHAT CAN WE SAY, WHAT CAN WE DO; FOR HE KNOWS EVERY WORD AND THOUGHT THAT WE HAD SINCE THE DAY OF YOUR BIRTH!

Psa 115:9, O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield. 

Don’t place your faith and trust in idols, but in the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY! WORSHIP AND FOLLOW HIM WHO GAVE ALL FOR YOU!

Psalm 112, Trust in the LORD!

Psa 112:1, Praise the LORD! BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO FEARS THE LORD, WHO DELIGHTS GREATLY IN HIS COMMANDMENTS.

It doesn’t say, blessed is the man who is scared of the LORD, that would be common sense! Blessed in the man who reveres the LORD and does what HE commands to do!

Luk 1:50, And HIS MERCY IS ON THOSE WHO FEAR HIM From generation to generation. 

Psa 112:2-3, His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches will be in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.

The man who reveres the LORD his family will be blessed! Wealth and riches will be in his house, BECAUSE THEIR FATHER, THE LORD, OWNS EVERYTHING, AND SUPPLIES HIS OWN!

Psa 37:25, I have been young, and now am old; YET I HAVE NOT SEEN THE RIGHTEOUS FORSAKEN, NOR HIS DESCENDANTS BEGGING BREAD. 

Psa 112:4, Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness; He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

In times of great uncertainty, and darkness, those that revere the LORD will still rejoice knowing their FATHER is in full control! HE IS OUR LIGHT, HE IS OUR HOPE, HE IS OUR STRENGTH, AND SAVIOR!  JESUS SAID..

Joh 12:46, I HAVE COME AS A LIGHT INTO THE WORLD, THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES IN ME SHOULD NOT ABIDE IN DARKNESS. 

Psa 112:7, He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

The upright will not be afraid of bad news (evil tidings) for his hearth is set on the ROCK, and shall not be moved!

Psa 62:5-6, My soul, wait silently for God alone, FOR MY EXPECTATION IS FROM HIM. HE ONLY IS MY ROCK AND MY SALVATION; HE IS MY DEFENSE; I SHALL NOT BE MOVED.

This is not about us it’s about the LORD and what HE has done for us! We are righteous because HE has removed our filthy garments and replaced them with HIS own! Put your trust in the LORD!

Isa 61:10, I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, My soul shall be joyful in my God; FOR HE HAS CLOTHED ME WITH THE GARMENTS OF SALVATION, HE HAS COVERED ME WITH THE ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, …

Psalm 102, Trails!

Psa 102:1-2, Hear my prayer, O LORD, And let my cry come to You. DO NOT HIDE YOUR FACE FROM ME IN THE DAY OF MY TROUBLE; INCLINE YOUR EAR TO ME; IN THE DAY THAT I CALL, ANSWER ME SPEEDILY.

A desperate plea for GOD’s attention, “LORD attend to my prayer”! The affliction is bad enough, but don’t add to it by hiding from me! THE HARDEST PART OF A TRIAL IS WAITING ON HIS RESPONSE! IT MAY SEEM THAT HE IS NOT DOING ANYTHING, BUT HE IS ALWAYS WORKING IN OUR LIVES!

Isa 8:17, AND I WILL WAIT ON THE LORD, Who hides HIS face from the house of Jacob; AND I WILL HOPE IN HIM. 

Psa 102:9-10, For I have eaten ashes like bread, And mingled my drink with weeping, Because of Your indignation and Your wrath; For You have lifted me up and cast me away.

The Psalmist mourning was made worse because he senses that this trial came from the LORD! The LORD doesn’t sleep on the job, HE is working and teaching by any means!

Rom 5:3-4, …but we also glory in tribulations, KNOWING THAT TRIBULATION PRODUCES PERSEVERANCE; AND PERSEVERANCE, CHARACTER; AND CHARACTER, HOPE.

Psa 102:11-12, MY DAYS are like a shadow that lengthens, AND I WITHER AWAY like grass.  But You, O LORD, shall endure forever, And the remembrance of Your name to all generations. 

My days, I wither away, BUT YOU!  The Psalmist gets his mind off himself and onto the LORD! Focus on the LORD, not on the trial!

Col 3:2, SET YOUR MIND ON THINGS ABOVE, NOT ON THINGS ON THE EARTH. 

Psa 102:19-20, FOR HE LOOKED DOWN FROM THE HEIGHT OF HIS SANCTUARY; FROM HEAVEN THE LORD VIEWED THE EARTH, To hear the groaning of the prisoner, TO RELEASE THOSE APPOINTED TO DEATH,

Remember we were prisoners to sin, BUT THE LORD JESUS SET US FREE; NO LONGER CONDEMNED, BUT RESTORED IN HIM!

Rom 6:22-23, But now having BEEN SET FREE FROM SIN, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.

TRIALS WILL COME, BUT WE HAVE VICTORY IN CHRIST JESUS! SET YOU MIND ON HIM!

Psalm 61, Seeking the LORD!

Psa 61:1-2a, HEAR MY CRY, O GOD; ATTEND TO MY PRAYER. FROM THE END OF THE EARTH I WILL CRY TO YOU, WHEN MY HEART IS OVERWHELMED;

David often cried out to the LORD! Some may believe crying is a sign of weakness, but David was a strong king and warrior! But David knew where his strength came from! THE LORD!

Exo 15:2, The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him. 

Psa 61:2b, LEAD ME TO THE ROCK THAT IS HIGHER THAN I.

When our hearts are overwhelmed and we don’t know what to do or where to go; CRY OUT TO THE LORD FOR HE IS THE ROCK OF OUR SALVATION! WE WILL NOT BE MOVED!

Psa 89:26, He shall cry to Me, ‘You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.’ 

David, being king, knew the highest place to be was at the feet of the LORD; for HIS ways are perfect and just! Trust in the LORD!

Deu 32:3-4, For I proclaim the name of the LORD: Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

Psa 61:3-4, FOR YOU HAVE BEEN A SHELTER FOR ME, A strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I WILL TRUST IN THE SHELTER OF YOUR WINGS. SELAH 

Like a bird protecting her chicks from danger, David wanted to be as close as possible to the LORD! He was remembering all the times the LORD protected him gave him shelter from his enemies! THE LORD IS ALWAYS WORKING IN OUR LIVES!

Joh 5:17, But JESUS answered them, “MY FATHER HAS BEEN WORKING UNTIL NOW, AND I HAVE BEEN WORKING.” 

Psa 61:8, SO I WILL SING PRAISE TO YOUR NAME FOREVER, THAT I MAY DAILY PERFORM MY VOWS. 

THE LORD IS STRENGTH AND SHELTER TO THOSE THAT SEEK HIM, AND TRUST IN HIM! HE IS WORTHY TO BE PRAISED! SEEK HIM DAILY FOR HIS TIME IS NEAR!

Psalm 52, Trusting in riches

Psa 52:2-4, Your tongue devises destruction, Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. You love evil more than good, Lying rather than speaking righteousness. Selah You love all devouring words, You deceitful tongue.

I know people who delight in gossip, and do not care if it causes pain! They love spreading rumors and lies and they believe no one hears!

Pro 12:22, LYING LIPS ARE AN ABOMINATION TO THE LORD, But those who deal truthfully are His delight. 

Psa 59:7, Indeed, they belch with their mouth; Swords are in their lips; FOR THEY SAY, “WHO HEARS?” 

Mat 12:36, But I (JESUS) say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 

Psa 52:7, “HERE IS THE MAN WHO DID NOT MAKE GOD HIS STRENGTH, BUT TRUSTED IN THE ABUNDANCE OF HIS RICHES, AND STRENGTHENED HIMSELF IN HIS WICKEDNESS.” 

Money is a useful tool, but never make that your hope! Riches come and go, but the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil!

Mar 10:24-25, … But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! IT IS EASIER FOR A CAMEL TO GO THROUGH THE EYE OF A NEEDLE THAN FOR A RICH MAN TO ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD.”
